Singapore Divorce Requirements

By Anne Austin

Divorce is a happily, or even unhappily, married couple's bad dream. It is something that plagues families and societies. Couples are likely to experience difficulties one way or another. More of these hardships might really try out one's faith in the other but it shouldn't be enough reason to give up on their vows. This is why it is important to do anything you can in your command to save your marriage.

If you are a long-suffering spouse or a miserable half and would like to know how to divorce in Singapore, you could always approach a lawyer or a therapist for support. Lawyers, or attorneys, as they are more commonly known among British English speakers, handle divorce cases as well. The scope of criminal lawyers, however, may vary when it comes to representing a partner though, so you may want to look into the cases of a lawyer and their experiences in managing divorce matters before hiring them.

If you believe your other half is committing infidelity, has managed to separate themselves from you with or without consent amid three and four years, has deserted you for two years or more, or is struggling with addiction or worse, abusing you, then you may want to consider applying for divorce. This would involve submitting a writ of divorce as well as the grounds for divorce to a close court.

If you and your spouse have children, then you will have to file the details on your children, especially if they are minors in addition to a detailed house plan and how they'll be subdivided. A copy of the papers and writ will then be dispatched to the respondent, and if they have no objections to the divorce, then divorce procedures may begin in six weeks.

Divorce is not an overnight process. It calls for anywhere between a few weeks and several years to be done depending on the reconciliation attempts and how steadfast the respondent is in their resolve of not agreeing to the divorce. Whatever the case might be, divorce shouldn't be taken lightly.
